Sacramento Valley Dog Fanciers Association (SVDFA) was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club as a "licensed club" in 1949 by founder, James Blood who presided over Sacramento Kennel Club. Its sole purpose was as a "social club" and the membership held Match Shows to support Sacramento Kennel Club. This match show/social group continued to function and in 1990 and 1991 the club actively sought members with the intent of beginning to hold AKC Point Shows. There are but a handful of members still active with the club from that time, but as is often the case with the growth of membership, we experienced some discord. Happily, Ellen Haro stood up and was somehow able to muster the votes necessary to keep the club and the dogs, first; and those members that remained held the club's first AKC point show in 1992 - a Saturday only show with an entry of 900 or so, and expanded to back-to-back shows in October in 1994 .
